View Full Version : Minor Scoring Tweaks

I wanted to throw out a few ideas to be discussed.

The biggest one is the return yards. IMO, the way they are now heavily distorts player value, particularly WRs. Last year, the top producing WRs in our league were all returners. Example:
Percy Harvin (http://www.nfl.com/players/percyharvin/careerstats?id=HAR829482) 60 Catches / 790 yds / 6 TDs = 165.45 FF points (http://archive.fantasysports.yahoo.com/archive/nfl/2009/544410/rosters?date=2010-07-22&week=17&mid=10)

Compared to Miles Austin, 81 / 1320 / 11 148 FF points (http://archive.fantasysports.yahoo.com/archive/nfl/2009/544410/rosters?date=2010-07-22&week=17&mid=6)

I can see the point in the player getting TD points for returns, and maybe 1 or 2 for 100+ games, but adding 1 / 20 yards is a bit much.

The other topic is the 3rd WR slot. I'd soo much rather see that changed to a wildcard (RB/WR) position. It'd help out bye week rosters tremendously and change up the trade block scene as well.

Those are my two biggest complaints. I have feelings about a few other things, but those are the ones that I feel really should be discussed.

I have no problem tweaking the scoring for return yards if a majority of others agree. I don't want to get rid of it totally though, as I think return yards by WR should get credit.

I'm not sure about the last part being an 'open' slot. I'm not sure that options is available...

How about 1 pt / 50 yards? That way the player is still rewarded for playing, but isn't racking up too many points for routine kickoffs. And of course I don't want to change anything without input from the rest of the owners.

The wildcard spot is most often referred to as a 'Flex' position. At least using CBS SportsLine and ESPN league tools (IIRC).

I'm most of the way with you on this, Os. Returners shouldn't be worth *more* than every-down WRs. OTOH, a return TD is pretty much a luck-of-the-draw crapshoot, happening only once a year or so for most guys. How about making it so that it takes, say, 50 return yards to get a point (leaving TD, of course, as they are)? That adds value to regular receivers who share return duties without blowing up the value of a return-only 5th WR.

Yahoo does allow the flex spot....it's labeled "W/R", not to be confused with WR. :)
