I was trying to find some more Dead Milkmen on MP3 and wasn't able to find a damn thing on bit torrent. So I created this routine:

Signed up for a 14 day free trial of Rhapsody via Comcast (my provider)
This allows me to stream unlimited songs but you have to pay to burn. (no download option in rhapsody)

Downloaded Replay Music 1.0 and a crack for it off the net
This allows me to grab stremed audio and record it to mp3 automatically.

I then added every DM song to my play list and hit record on the Replay Music.

Sure it'll take a few hours and it records as it plays, but so far, so good.

Anyone else have any interesting solutions to stealing music?

It's not instant gratification but I do this.

alt.binaries.sounds.mp3

I post my request and I attach a album of the same music genre as a act of good faith. About 90% of the time someone posts the album(s) i'm looking for within 24 to 36 hours.

BUT! I like how your idea sounds in terms of being sneaky :) How is the quality of the streamed music?

The quality is 128kbps-ish. Good enough for me.

I'm a 192 guy myself. As I don't have the kind of stereo equipment that would warrant the higher rates, anything over 128 will work.

Your mp3s might as well be ripped at 96 in that ragtop Jeep of yours with all that road noise! :)
