Bathroom Standard Operating Procedures

The folks where I am employed are quite disgusting when it comes to bathroom hygiene. Although a majority of us are salty-old mariners we're now white-collar, high-paid salaried employees. However it seems that your profession or your standing in your company or community doesn't impact your cleanliness. Folks that make $160,000 a year and have multiple degrees are just as gross as the next guy. (A poor assumption on my part, I admit)

For example, one of our top managers (we'll say #2 in charge) walks out of the stall, runs his fingers through his hair and walks out.

Another one turns on the water for less that 1/1000th of a second to 'wash' his hands.

Cell-phone use while in the crapper is on the rise and quite disgusting.

(although the funniest thing it that our president's feet barely touch the floor while he's sitting down... hahahahah)

What's your personal, work-place bathroom procedure?

I'm with you, Nuts--I work for a university. The vast majority of people in my building have at least a master's degree, and most of them probably have their PhDs, yet the custodians had to put a sign up in the restroom pleading with everyone to flush the toilets when they've finished. People really are disgusting creatures. One more reason why I'm trying to perfect my shut-in lifestyle.

I second that vote!

I try not to touch anything. I flush the urinal with my elbow and flush the toilet with my foot. I wash with soap and use the paper towel for the door handle on the way out.

I've found myself doing this after years of watching people walk right out of the shitter and walk right out the door. That's just plain gross.

I, too, do the "foot flush" on the bowls as much as possible. I figure it's a little harder to "befoul" the urinal handles, and I'm washing (or as we say here in Delaware, "warshing") my hands immediately afterwords for those incidental germs.

The ultimate, of course, are the "touch-free" toilets that they have in our main student center and nicer restaurants like the Iron Hill Brewery. All you have to watch out for there is the "backspray" that occurs when the sensor thinks you've stepped away before you're actually done. Nasty.

I'm definetly a paper-towel-the-door guy. And actually (just between you and me) I go to the empty floor upstairs where there are no offices and use that restroom. Everytime I go in there the water is still blue and the sinks are still spotless. 3 urinals and 4 stalls for the 170 men on this floor just barely meets the OSHA regulations. So you can imagine what the place looks like by 5pm. :eek:

I do the foot flush too, but you got to have the door already open as there aren't any lids to prevent the misting action that occurs when a toilet flushes. (Try it at home... put red food coloring in your toilet. Surround the area around the toilet with paper towel. Now flush. The misting action can go quite far. Now image that mist after a night of mexican food. :eek: )

Now I'm not germophobe (sp) but I draw the line in public restrooms.

OK, what is it about university bathrooms? At every university I've ever been too, the library bathrooms have been posted on more often than this forum. Do they hand out sharpies to people at the entrances of these things? Usually at least one stall has a strategically placed hole between the stalls.

Hygene has little to do with ones educational level and absolutely nothing to do with ones income.

I have spent enough years making a living (not just in college or something) in the food service industry and doing janatorial work and cleaned some horribly disgusting stuff in bathrooms.

I do my business, fulsh toilets by hand open doors and everything. I also always wash my hands and above the wrist with hot or warm water and soap and dry them and go on my way. I may be a slob in real life but I am a clean and hygenic slob.

Depending on the bathroom I may use a paper towel to open the door on the way out because, it seems, other people will not wash their hands or do the trickle rinse thing and think its good.

All those years of minimum wage jobs did teach me something apparently even VP's in our office did not learn.
