Upcoming Updates

As some of you may have heard, Minecraft will be releasing it's new launcher this week. Considering the thing about adding beds to the game, I suspect they'll also release a new server application as well. I'll do my best to have our server migrated to that as soon as I can.

Also, I'm going to aim for to deploy other server updates this weekend. Most importantly will be the ability for players to /world nether to transport themselves to the dark side.

1.3 is out now.

I saw that. Upgrading is at the top of my priority list of to do's when I get home. Don't be surprised if the server is up and down while I get that sorted out and I'll reply in this thread as soon as we're all squared away.

Ok. Been playing in offline mode...lighting got a significant tweak. Torches don't seem to light up as much, but the lighting looks better to my eyes.

Yup, supposedly the integrated Better Light (previously a client side mod) into the game.

I'm glad we have automated backups running smooth, the change of world save structures makes me nervous...

Thanks, Os--I'm looking forward to seeing my constructions in the "new" light. It definitely does look better than before.

Edit: also, it looks like my client updated a second time. Looks like they may not be quite "done" rolling out 1.3.

Alright, we're back online and we're running semi naked.. Truely vanilla, with only the new white-list file and obscurity to protect us..

I'm certain all the required plugins will be updated over the course of the next few days. So as long as their ready and I've tested'em - I'll aim to deploy them Saturday or Sunday morning.

Edit: having tried the beds, but that should replace your /home which isn't there via plugin as it had been. Same goes for /TPC, /Warp, etc..

My mines are infested with slimes!

was wondering when they were going to make good on that threat. Probably means your close to a slime dungeon

I can't seem to kill them either. There are about 50 down there. They have effectively shut down my mining operation.

Dump some lava on them. Or shift your mine 100meters to the left.

Yeah, I'll probably just seal them in and mine somewhere else. One is cute. 50 - not so much.

I went down to my mines in anticipation of finding cute little slimes and NONE. I couldn't find any slimes in my mines.

Why does Bribo get all the love?

They are 75% more annoying than I had hoped.

I just completed a quick upgrade of the server. The /home /tpc /warp and so on commands should now be working.

Note that due to format changes, you'll need to reset your /home (/sethome) if it's still needed.

And.. /World nether will take you to the dark side.. /world normal will bring you back.

I popped on today and noticed that the world has been rolled back a bit. I lost a good portion of my subway track and the station I built at one end is completely gone.

UHG.. That was probably me.. Any idea when you built them?

What happened was we had power outage on Sunday that shut everything. I learned a few things from this... MC Servers don't handle power outages too well.. And recovering from them isn't easy either..

The production world became corrupt due to the outage. So I had to restore from backup. I thought I was ok with my 10 min back because I hadn't seen anyone on in a bit.

Sorry about that Squidly, I tried to get everything back to the way it was. Please let me know the last time you were working on that so I can do a more thorough investigation of the backups were taking and hopefully avoid this in the future.

I've sealed off my slime chamber with a door and put in a glass ceiling for easy viewing of the little critters. Squid came over for a visit and soon learned that the slimes are a pain in the ass. They bump and buffet you and you can't hardly move. But they are fun little guys to watch.

To find my place find Squidly's giant chicken. From the chicken look for a sailing ship (the S.S. Cialis). Up the hillside from the sailing ship you'll see Castle Bribo. Then mines are deep under the castle and in the most bottom layer live the slimes.

I was working on it on Saturday and Sunday I think. Lost the work I did then.

Might as well just forget about it now... it's been long enough that people have created new things. Don't want to lose that stuff. I can rebuild what I lost pretty easy.

OK. Again really sorry about that. I had done a fair bit of backup and recovery testing, but that was always with a controlled test scenario. And to be honest, I hadn't retested my method since 1.3 came out. I'll still do some testing of the method I'm using with the new 1.3 version to hopefully restore my comfort level.

When I get home, I'll make sure that you and Squidly have access to use /setwarp. That way you can create a warp location and everyone can get there much easier.

Oz - can you check the server? It appears water is not working. Mike K. confirmed. When you place a bucket of water it appears for a second then disappears.

Oh, and btw, all my slimes have disappeared. :(

The water placement should be fixed now. Let me know if if continues.

And I have no idea about the slimes. I'm pretty sure that their not persistent, so I doubt they'd be there forever..
