    GTA IV Delayed... and worse.

Looks like it's been pushed back to Dec. 2nd for the PC.

The really bad news is that the article says it requires Vista. I seriously doubt I'm going to "upgrade" to Vista for one game.

I almost feel like I'm being extorted.

You mean Halo 2 because of the DirectX 10 requirement. That is also the case for GTA IV. It is based of the DirectX 10 engine which of course is not on XP so that forces you into having to have Vista running. I played GTA IV for a while and I never really got into it. It was poorly written and from a graphical perspective on the PS3 it wasn't very jaw dropping. I've seen the Xbox360 version and it looked worse then the PS3 version. In short I'm saying your not missing anything.

Awesome Slaughter! Now yet another reason to steer clear of Vista.

It hasn't been worked on in a while, so some games may not work in xp... But its something I had heard about back when Vista first came out.

I got it up and running and installed Halo 2. Very poor framerate, Its nice to play it in XP, but the shell structure really does belong in Vista......

    -100 Vista

This article on the delay has the minimum and recommended machine specs. And according to it, WinXP will be supported out of the box with no DX10 diddling required.

They snuck this out yesterday and I missed it! I'm going to pick this up in the next day or two (debating Steam vs. a Best Buy run)--anyone else?

I'm probably going to pick it up and am likely to go with Steam. That will prevent DVD the DVD check when the game fires up. (I hate DVD checks.)

I did get this and it makes my recently-updated rig gasp for air (mainly the vid card). I think I'm going to get a second one and SLI that bad boy pretty soon, so it'll be interesting to see what kind of difference that makes. It's very good (or bad, depending on your perspective) about not letting you set the graphics too high for your card to handle, so the game plays just the same, but at the low-ish settings I'm running, it looks just like GTA3/Vice City/San Andreas rather than a whole new game.
