    Guitar Hero....now on PC

I realize that this is maybe the worst week I could have chosen to ask this, but I just saw that Guitar Hero III has a PC port, complete with guitar controller. Has anyone played the console versions? I can't decide whether it looks like a lot of fun or a complete waste.

Part of the fun of Guitar Hero and Rock band is the social aspect of these games. Since the PC is more or less a single player platform I think that it's not well suited for this style of game.

Yeah, kind of what I thought. Although I have a capable PC hooked up to my flatscreen and surround sound, so if the guitar controllers are USB and the game supports more than one, that could actually work.

Played Rock Band on the PS2 a few weeks back. I have to admit it was a blast but all people involved were less than sober.

I can't speak to the PC version, but I've played the hell outta RB1 and 2 on 360. Personally I love'em for challenge and social fun. And oh ya -- getting slightly intoxicated and having 3-4 people trying to rock out is hilarious. Success is all high fives and good sense of team accomplishment.

But as far as the genre goes, I've found that anyone who really enjoys music and listens intently usually likes the game. And if you haven't tried to play a guitar, it gives much more appreciation to that as well.
