    Windows 7 Beta

Is anyone else running the Windows 7 beta? I just installed it today on my gaming desktop, and so far, I'm fairly impressed. Nearly everything worked right out of the box, and it has been perfectly stable so far. From a formatted drive to installation completion, this has probably been my best Windows experience. Fallout 3 looks and runs great at maximum settings--even better, perhaps, than it did in XP for me.

A friend at work is running it and having a similar, positive experience.

I downloaded it, I just haven't burned it and tried an install yet.

I had a similar experience with VISTA-64, and haven't had a problem to speak of and it's still running as smooth as the day I installed it.

I just grabbed rc1 for x64 ultimate, installing it on my gaming rig so I'll see how it goes. Cool thing is that rc1 is good until June 2010 so they give you a decent amount of time to test it. Although it does say that at the end of March 2010 it will start shutting down every 2 hours, still more than enough time to try it out

I have it installed on a VM. Not putting it through any heavy lifting but it performs great with 2 processors and 2 gigs of my MacBook's RAM.

It's got one huge downside that I can think of.

    two questions:

Does the media player still keep playing audio after you close it?

Do the folders still keep resetting the settings after you reboot?

Haven't had either of these issues happen to me at all, so far so good another cool benefit is that by running release candidate 1 you get to download the beta versions from all the major antivirus companies for free.

So far it is very stable all the options are there just takes a little to find them sometimes. I like the "gadgets" you can configure. I haven't had any compatibility issues yet either.

Any updates on this? There's a way to purchase ligit keys for Win 7 from MS for $20, and I'm thinking about it. Vista has been a dissappointment, and I want better.

So, I have upgraded 2 machines to windows 7 (retail) and loving it (about 4 weeks ago). Appears to be snapper and stable. The aero interface is much better along with that UAC thing is now a sliding bar that can be adjusted. I turned it off for now. No issues with gaming or application todate!

Recommendation to date is good to go... (2 machines = (pc machines and laptop))

I have Windows 7 RC1 64 loaded on my laptop and I'm loving it. I steered clear of anything with Vista on it but caved in to try 7 and have not been disappointed.

I have Windows 7 Enterprise (retail) installed on my MacBook, my work desktop (these two are 32-bit) and on my gaming rig (64 bit), and have been 100% happy. So far, no compatibility problems (although I've heard Batman Arkham Asylum has issues); basically, it's all the good stuff from Vista with the problems fixed (including "problems" that weren't problems, like UAC--it's much less intrusive in Vista). It's a faster OS, too, IMO--MS did a good job streamlining it (there's a version targeted specifically at netbooks, so the de-bloating shows.)

Bah, the jerks, they closed the loophole by the time I got home tonight, so no $19 Win 7 key for me.
