    Outsourcing/offshoring phase II

    http://www.informationweek.com/news/...leID=213000389

The climate is warm, there's no shortage of exotic food, and the cost of living is rock bottom. That's IBM (NYSE: IBM)'s pitch to the laid-off American workers it's offering to place in India. The catch: Wages in the country are pennies-on-the-dollar compared to U.S. salaries.
**I just have nothing cool enough to put here**

Looks like a great opportunity for a young person, provided you don't have a family. Yeah, you'll have a few years at a low salary, but the economy will rebound eventually, and the experience will be priceless.

Well I've lived overseas...for someone in the right situation, it's a super experience. Plus it can be spun on any future resume. Someone mature enough to tackle a rough overseas assignment might look good on your roster here back in the states.

Then there's the life-experience of it. Lots of people never get to see the world.

Finally, money is relative. Making 30k a year might suck, but if rent costs you 10 dollars a month...maybe not so much.

If you're looking to move offshore, I strongly recommend Kwajalein Range Services. They are hiring and the pay/benefits are great. IT, HVAC, you name it. Hell, I think that each of us should leave or wives/husbands/kids for 12 months and all move there!!!!

I think i may be with squidly on this one ... I WISH I had the opportunity to move overseas and relocate. Hell a trip or 2 would be better than nothing.

I've worked my life away in an office tucked in the armpit of the south for what some may consider a mediocre wage. I've never seen anything other than the U.S. and for that matter only traveled west of the MIssissippi river once, and it wasn't on a pleasure trip.

Unfortionatly with kids, my options for relocating to an exotic place and working across the world are over. Not complaining, just saying. If givin the oportunity to work overseas under the right circumstances (single with no kids) I would jump at the chance !

Hell I'm jealous when I see pictures of Nuts on a tanker in the middle of the ocean, or Squidly in airports in Hong Kong !

India would be last on my list. Never been there but from what I hear from many it's a hole.

From what I hear, (and I work with a half-dozen native Indians) it depends on where you go.

Call me ethnocentric or an ugly American but I prefer locations where personal hygiene is observed and people don't stand up when taking a crap.

No - more like crapping on your shoes.

I'm not all that concerned with their bathroom habits, provided it's not my bathroom.

I prefer the mens room to not look like a scene from the Road Warrior.

Not to start a new thread, but times are tough here in the U.S. My company's earnings for last year were only $21,700,000,000.... a record.
