No secret, I wasn't a big Obama supporter. But he's our president now, like it or not. So I've been trying to be open minded (it's hard). So far though - I'm not sold. The whole, trying to be barpartisan thing has been a lot of talk. Actually - a lot of it has been a lot of talk.
Seeing headlines like "Obama to Congress: Pass stimulus, don't play games", strikes me as pretty damn condescending. What it's saying is, his plan is clearly the best, and anyone who disagrees is to be disregarded as a political gamesman? We'll see how this goes. Smells like something a demagogue would say to me.
To me, pissing away $800Bn doesn't strike me as the solution. When times are tight, pulling out every credit card you've got and maxing it out to manicure the lawn just strikes me as dumb.
The instant closing of Gitmo seems about as well thought out as the invasion of Iraq. A stroke of the pen to solve this immediate thorn, without really thinking through the long term impacts and plan once it's done.
His political vetting process for his appointee's is a bit amusing. I'm not going to feign shock and anger. Frankly, I don't really get that worked up about someone forgetting to pay a tax on using a car that was assigned to them. Mostly I'm amused at just how many of his appointee's seem to get all these perks that they forget to pay taxes on. A little sorry to see the inconsistency of "Change" for cleaner government and new ideas and the reality of same old - same old politics. It's a little dissappointing. Hopefully he's done with his temper fits, but somehow I doubt it. It could be worse I suppose.
The demagogue attitude has a me a little nervous. Hopefully he'll get a swift kick in the ass attitude adjustment soon - and hopefully it won't be one that screws up the country in the process.
He's got the potential to be a decent president. So far - I haven't seen a lot of delivery.
