Finally got this game up and running tonight. I upgraded my video card driver right after installing, which turned out to be a big mistake. Turns out the latest 2 versions of the NVidia driver for my card completely break L4D (among other games). So, got an older version and things are looking good.
Man, this game makes me jump out of my skin sometimes!
