    New Star Trek

Any good? Thinking about seeing it - but worried they overdid the "modernization filmography".

If there's a skateboard of any kind in the thing - I'm out!

There's an early scene from the trailer where young kirk is driving too fast listening to punk music. Didn't fit the rest of the movie very well but that was the only scene that might turn you off. Overall I loved the crap out of the whole movie

Went and saw it. I enjoyed it. Definitely has it's own identity - and that's not a bad thing.

When the new guy sat down next to Kirk while wearing the red space suit - beaker and I just looked at each other and grinned.

You think he is that young? I think my only disappiontment was that more of the old cast wasnt in it. I know some are dead, but others are alive and well.

I'm looking forward to seeing it. However, whenever I see Spock I immediately think "Syler".

I just saw it a few minutes ago here in Seattle at one of the best IMAX theaters in the world and I had a helluva good time.

I'm not a big Star Trek fan and have never seen one of the movies with the "new guys," (Piccard, etc.) and had no idea what I was in for.

I give it two big thumbs-up, particularly because it was essentially a prequel and it captivated the attention of old guys like me and laid the groundwork for a whole new generation of Star Trek fans.

What I probably liked the most was the somewhat convoluted plot, one that didn't condescend to the lowest common denominator. It was sort of like the producers said, "Star Trek fans are generally smarter than the average Joe. Let's give 'em something to dig their teeth into."

Anyway, at the end of the movie it occurred to me that James T. Kirk's original Captain's chair was about 900 feet away at the base of the Space Needle in Paul Allen's museum of Sci-Fi...

It was a good day and I recommend the hell out of this movie.

One thing I didn't like was the whole "shaky cam" style of filming. I'm not sure what's compelling film makers to employ this style (maybe it makes it feel like you the audience are part of the action - dunno) but to me it seems largely unnecessary.

Other than that (and the fact that engineering has some kind of water processing - blender chamber) I thought the movie was great.
