I got rid of Trillian because it defeated the purpose of using it for me. I wanted something that combined AOL IM and ICQ. Well... I tried 4 different versions of Trillian and not a single one of them every worked for AOL for me. I could log on with exact same info onto AOL, AOL IM, but would not work for Trillian.
So I stick with ICQ, although I do use "Everybuddy" on my Linux box.

Sorry to hear that Slaughter....I tried previous versions and hated it. But this latest one finally does everything it said it would do. I really enjoy it and the sound with emotions.

AOL being the piece of shit it is, changes it protocal or something or other so it rendors trillian useless. Everytime AOL makes a change to deter trillian, the trillian boys come out with a new version. Lucky for us, trillian now has a built in auto-update. DIE AOL DIE!

AKAIK (and one would think that I might actually know), AIM has only ever had two "protocols": TOC and the "current" version, OSCAR). You can still log into AIM with the "old" TOC protocol, but it doesn't support some of the newer features that OSCAR does (part of AOL's strategy to take over the world involves continuing legacy support for the AOL 3.x clients that grandma and grandpa installed on their Window 3.1 box back in 1996 using a 3.5" floppy, not knowing how to upgrade it). This is why programs like Everybuddy and gAIM still work on *UX* boxes all over the planet: TOC is still alive and well in that world.
