    Setting up a Server?

My own little office is slowly becoming a reality. Move-in day is June 1. And I'm wondering what it would take to set up a game server.

I'm buying a new desktop. Officially it's just for word processing and web research, so I'm looking at a 1.0 to 1.4 Athlon and 256 megs RAM. The building where I'm leasing has an internet deal set up where for $75 per month I get at least 400k up and down.

So I'm wondering how close this is to a setup where I could switch it over to a decent game server in the evenings and weekends. Not that I will do this anytime soon. I've got way too much to do these days. But it would be neat to have the capability. What are the considerations in terms of bandwidth, RAM, chip, and anything else to make a good gaming server?

Quadruple (or, at the VERY least, double) the RAM and you'll have a system that will do well as a game server.

So the 400k up and down will be enough? How much bandwidth does each player take in a T2 game?

From my best estimates, each player sucks down about 8k/sec of bandwidth. That's according to the traffic analysis I've done on the AK servers over the past week or so...
