Hey, Look at me... I'm using Red Hat 8.0!

Man, if anyone still has the deluded notion that Linux isn't for the masses, they haven't seen Red Hat 8.0... This thing is sweet and quite fast... Awfully nice of AOL to continue to lend me this lovely 700MHz PIII laptop as a testbed... Oh, and let's not forget the 2 Sun Ultra 10's and 4 (yes 4) free monitors they've been nice enough to leave laying around in my house... Anyway, Netscape7 runs pretty nice on here, and I couldn't be more pleased with the interface and usability... Heck, I could probably hand this to my wife and she'd feel right at home...

Mozilla's fine, but I actually prefer N7... I got hooked on it when they were distributing the daily builds at work...

Gnome 2 kicks ass, as does the new version of Galeon.

Anyone know if they have gnome 2 finished for Solaris? I had the 1.4 and it ran like a pig. I am gonna wipe out my blade and load up Solaris 9 and I sure would like to have a nice pretty desktop to work on

I think Ximian Gnome is, Goob... Their installation is about the best thing in Linux right now, but, for some reason, those folks get a bad rap in the GPL community. Heck, their email/calendar/etc suite Evolution, is about the most complete collaboration tool available for Linux and will even interface with Exchange Server (using a $69 connector)...

Gentoo is THE superior Linux; RedHat/Mandrake continue to be the most usable Linux's. SuSE = Nazi Linux.

I love Evolution. It's basically Outlook, but better.

    - I can't argue that, damn germans. However, they make a sexy OS.

I became interested in linux a few months ago, i started with slackware, i cant say i like it much, sure its fast and all that, but wheres the user friendly stuff, im not askin for the wondoze for dummies stuff, but who really likes compiling all your freaking applications.
Dont get me wrong, im new as hell to linux, but i dont think slack is the way to go at all.
would you suggest the Red hat distribution to someone new?

Slackware is one of the more challenging installs for Linux noobs. I would choose Redhat or Mandrake. Very easy to install and your up and running in no time.
