    BF1942 Questions

    After only playing a few days I think BF1942 is a great game and has some serious potential for league competition. I have some questions though:

    1) Is there a tournament mode set by the admin where all players join and choose sides and wait for the match to start?

    2) Is there a way to record and playback your matches? This would be invaluable to review our scims and matches and lookfor areas of improvement.

    3) Is there a way to set the resolution of the main control screen (where you join a server and set your controls). I have a problem with my monitor at 800x600 (does some weird warping of the screen) and it looks like the video settings only effect the in-game resolution.

    4) Is there a way to shorten the respawn time? Is this a server side setting?

    On a side note, thanks to all who joined last night to work on their TeamSpeak issues. I think we got everyones problems ironed out. We also had a great pick-up match on the AK server afterward.

    1) Not that I know of. We'll get everyone in on a different map, then restart the game on the match map.

    2) Dunno.

    3) Get a new monitor.

    4) Shortening respawn would unblance the game, IMO. There has to be some penalty for death beyond loss of 1 ticket.

    d) Is the death cam going to turned off for ladder matches? That would make sniping much more effective.

    I had no idea you could turn that off... Here's what TWL says about the server settings (glad to see they worked in some of my suggestions...)
    Server Set Up Information

    Server Settings

    General Tab:
    Server Name: (name of server)
    Password: whatever is set for match
    Time Limit: 20
    Score Limit: No Limit
    Max Number of Player: 24
    Round Per Level: 0

    Maps Tab:
    3 maps: The maps that are in the rotation should be set up as follows. Map1, Map1, Map2, Map2, Map3, Map3. This allows for sides to be switched once the timelimit has been reached.

    Gameplay Tab:
    Spawn Time: 10 seconds
    Start Delay: 60 seconds
    Ticket Ratio: 100% (may change per map if issues arise)
    Team Ratios: 1 for Axis, 1 for Allies
    Friendly Fire: Checked On
    Infantry: 100%
    Vehicles: 100%
    Infantry Splash: 100%
    Vehicle Splash: 100%
    Projectile Backfire: 0%
    Explosion Backfire: 0%

    Advanced Tab:
    Target Nametags: 300 meters
    Friendly Nametags: 100 meters
    Free Spectator Camera: off
    External Views: on
    Nose Cameras: on
    Autoswitch Teams: off

    IP Settings Tab:
    Detect Automatically: Checked

    IMO, that time limit of 20 minutes per map is going to make match play not too much fun...

    There are some interesting tidbits on the front page of the official site. One line in there suggested that spawning works in waves:

    Be sure to watch the spawn interface when you are dead, be prepared to click on a new spawn point if yours is lost, because you don't want to wait for another spawn cycle.

    So every twenty seconds or so, everyone who's waiting spawns. That's why it seems so random. The idea behind that is probably to encourage people to move in groups rather than in a trickle.

    Here are some other things I didn't know:

    Alt firing with a grenade can throw it farther. If you jump while throwing it, you can send a grenade a block and a half.

    It's possible for a vehicle to go slow enough to not set off landmines.

    The death cam to the guy who killed you is an intentional way to keep the sniper's power in check.

    As a CTF strategy, you can have a multi-seat plane swoop down on the flag carrier and have the him climb in.

    Tank damage depends not only on where you hit the tank, but also on the shot's angle relative to the armor. There's no mention of distance as a factor.
