    ColorUnhappy TeamSound...

SolarWolf, Dr K and I tested Teamsound (http://www.teamsound.com) last
night and once we got it working the results were incredible. It makes
RW seem like a cruel joke.

The best comparison is that of a $5 toy walkie-talkie and crystal clear FM radio.

SW and I popped on to 5150 East for a game with about 18 people in it, and
experienced no problems whatsoever with Teamsound.

For some folks compatibility may in fact be an issue, but you really need to give it a shot *anyway*. There are a lot of settings you can use to get around shortcomings of your older sound cards.

IMO we really need to make this happen. The ability to have channels is an added, major bonus. You can map offense and defense to a couple of keys and flop back and forth with ease.

Put this on a dedicated server (instead of running it off of SW's pc) and performance figures to get even better.

    here's another cool feature...

    24. Can TeamSound be activated by a URL or link from a webpage?

Yes. Once TeamSound is installed you can activate and connect TeamSound to any server using a TeamSound URL. The syntax is:

    TS:\\<a.b.c.d>:<channel>

Where <a.b.c.d> represents the IP address of your TeamSound server. <Channel> is any named channel already defined on the server and is optional.
you can link to the server from ak.com, or here in the forums! isn't that easy?

    Yep, it's easy...

My initial troubles came because I played around with my default settings before realizing that I needed to open a port on my firewall. Then when I had the port opened, I could no longer send... a simple matter of reverting to default values and I was in business.

    Red face

I never have been to keen on TS. It lags me out when trying to play and run it at the same time. While me and NR were playing with aYg we used TS some. During that period I didn't play because my ping was anywhere from 500-999 while people were talking, in the 200's if no one was. TS tears up the bandwidth in Modems, making the games your trying to play while using TS unplayable. Please think of the little guy before switching to TS.

2 mo. and counting for cable and DSL in my area. Question is which should I get.

When did you try it (what version of the software?) The current version allows you to throttle back audio quality if you're using an ordinary analog modem.

The benefits are significant enough to warrent another trial, IMO.

Im thinking about the team, and the absolute nessesity there is to communicate effectively between eachother. RW does not provide separate channels to break the Offense and Defense up on. I dont want to leave anyone behind here. But as Squidly said, there are many ways to tweak Teamsound so that a system will run it. All Im asking is that we give it a fair shake.

I think it is still worth the try. If TS flies, great. If not, we stay with RW. Things change

Given a choice, I would say DSL if your within a reasonable distance of the center. My brother's experiences with cable have been a mix, considerably faster at times than my ADSL (his: 1800 down to my 1200) but inconsistant with cable dropping or spiking down to 200 to 300 during peak use times which seem to be more and more often. I've never tested lower than 1100.

I'm not so much set on TS as opposed to what we have now. Every time we use it, each person can only hear half the people on the channel. I don't know why, but the voice chat is no use in its current condition. We can try to figure out how to fix RW, go to BattleComm, go to TeamSound, whatever. But let's work towards a solution.

Perhaps a "Teamsound Test Leader" should be appointed, and this person could work to set up a "beta test" with a larger number of volunteers (6-8 people) with various gear configs.

I'll volunteer my computer (and work T1) as a test server. I'll put it on tomorrow. The IP is 128.175.61.250, but that might be changing next week, and will be changing later on towards July, as my office is moving twice in the next three weeks. But that's not a big deal; I'll keep everyone posted on the location if/when it changes.

I'm currently downloading the client for my home box. Can't wait to try it out.

I'll participate in the test. RW is so buggy it's nearly unusable.

How does that work for everyone?
