    Zorro,

    The people I work with were thinking about setting up a battlefield server... we are a video game company and we have a lot of extra computers lying around and a fast internet connection... we were wondering what it would take hardware wise to runa good server (so that we can piece it together) and the necessary knowledge we would need!

    Since I've worked here (year and a half) we've made "Freekstyle" for EA Sports BIG on the PS2 and the Gamecube... it was a good game although a bit of a clone of their success from the launch of SSX and the PS2. Unfortunatly EA is a big corporation and they only make innovations once every 10 years then just attempt to repeat their success... anyway, EA alienated their target market with their advertising campaign and got so many letters from offended motorcross fans that they decided to scuttle the game rather than try to sell it... boo hoo, EA sucks!

    So now we are contracted with Sony making another sports title...

    We run PC's for sure... I just took over the task of building the computers for work... so I'm gonna be trying to get away from using AMD's and get back to Intel's but right now we do have mostly AMD based machines.

    yeah, because AMD's are better...

    If you're gonna be getting new machines wait 2 or 3 months for the AMD Barton(Athlon XP/MP)... it'll be a nice processor. Way better than the Intels, fast, reliable.. and 64bit thats gonna be the x86-64 one. The other good one is the ClawHammer/SledgeHammer(Athlon 64/Opteron) http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...18_608,00.html
