    RedDot Question

I found a T-bird 1ghz Slot a. I checked on the amd page and my current mb will work with it. but when i check under recommended motherboards its not listed as one for that chip. I was wondering if it would work. I have a FIC SD-11. It says its compatible under http://www1.amd.com/athlon/mbl/slotaavail (Slot A Availability)
but not listed as one under http://www1.amd.com/athlon/mbl (Recomended MB's)

Can someone help me out here? Its confused me.

If it's listed under "compatible" for that chip, it should work. It's just not one that AMD "recommends", i.e., you may not get as fast performance as you would with a "recommended" motherboard, and your tech support options from AMD (and probably the board manufacturer as well) will be more limited than if you use a recommended board.

Of course, my cynical side is skeptical about "recommended" motherboards too. There's a part of me that says "Recommended=companies that paid AMD to endorse their boards." Don't know if that's true or not, but I wouldn't put it past 'em...capitalism at its best.

Never been a fan of FIC boards, myself... IMHO, you can never go wrong with an Asus or ABit board. There are some other emerging board makers, and some other dinosaurs, but the aforementioned companies are the only that are able to combine the quality and stability of the mainstays with the innovation and quick turnaround of the startups.
