The reality behind Bowling for Columbine
Read the whole thing... it picks up steam. Truly outrageous that more isn't being made of this.

The sun has fallen down
And the billboards are all leering
And the flags are all dead at the top of their poles.
Explain to me something here then... Why compare 4 Major Canadian cities to 5 non-major US cities? (I didn't count Minneapolis, it is fairly major)Canadian city homicide rates: Toronto 1; Montreal 3; Winnipeg 3; Windsor 4 (source)
US city homicide rates: Madison WI 1.4; Minneapolis 2.6; Bismarck ND 0 (not a typo, zero); Boise 2; Duluth 2 Portland ME 1.2 (source: FBI Uniform Crime Reports 2001)
IMO, this is just a paper written by someone to discredit "Bolwing for Columbine". The movie itself had some good points, and compared Homicides in America to more countries than just Canada.

It's about population density...
Bowling for Columbine is well filmed fiction.

I think thats the point of the cities thing.
Your cities are in the middle of nowhere, so its trying to make you think that the major cities are far worse.
Can you really deny that?
I've seen this movie, the rip of an awards version.
I was at least satsfied that he didnt point videogames out as the cause.
As for the rest of it. I'm really uncaring. That article points out a lot of things that are possibly fake. But the article in itself provides no evidence, links, or whatnot, to prove its points, so at this point, I'm inclined to believe neither.
Its akin to a liar calling aother liar, a liar.

I actualy like Micael Moore from the old TV Nation days. I thought he was entertaining. But I never thought of his material as documentary material. I did not watch that Bowling movie (I was probably busy watching The Fellowship of the Rings for the 10'th time or something) but I would probably not think of it as an actual documentary. An entertaining piece it might be, I have no idea.
In TV Nation he did a piece on the stupidity of people and how we attach significance to fame regardless of what that fame is for. In that piece he did mass mailings in a few states with envelopes requesting donations of a nice guy on his film crew begging for money for his wedding. On the same leterhead with the same style envelope he sent a mailing with a known mass-murderer asking for money from his trial. They used the same style of print and form just changing the name and the reason for the money. They recieved no money for the wedding and actualy got a lot of hate mail (and some lunatic made death threats). The mass murderer mailing recieved checks amounting to some significant amount... they of course mailed the checks back to the people explaining that it was a stunt for TV. He made the correlation between a face people have seen and a face nobody knows. Obviously people did not read the text of the mailings too close or they would not have given money to a mass murderer but they had likely seen his face on TV.
Not a scientific or significant study but was entertaining to watch. Like I said, I found him entertaining but not realy somone whom I would watch for true information. I am suprised he being legitimized as a documentary director, he is no social scientist any more that George Carlin is.

I've been to Portland, ME. I could see someone getting whacked there.
Toronto is a great city. You should do away with the blinking green for left turns. It confuses us Yanks. What's the CN Tower called this year?
Moore is an ENTERTAINER, just like all the other bubbleheads out there in Hollywood. Anything he produces will have his liberal slant graven into it from the beginning. You might as well look to Martin Sheen for information.

Hmm, there are dozens of links backing up every point that was made. Did you read the same story I did?Originally posted by [AK]Garrett
