    Finally!

I've had DirecTV for a year now and this is my 2nd season of NFL Sunday ticket.. well today I finally placed my order for the DirecTivo unit!! I'm almost modern!!

I took the 'special' they offered for the DirecTivo 2 Unit for $179.00 which includes everything. (Installation, upgrading my dish to dual LNB, grounding, running wire, relocating my existing unit to a new room, etc). There is one downside. You can't pick your unit, which means I'm getting either a Hughes or a Phillips, but I won't know which until they show up on 20th for the install. Since I have the Total Premier package, Tivo Service is free for me.

Even though I don't have a TV in here, since it's included I'm going to have them run the wire to my computer room. Maybe I'll buy a TV Tuner card and hook it up to my 2nd PC that I just rebuilt.

Tivo kicks all ass... really it's hard to overstate the minty goodness.

I've been thinking about getting an All-in-Wonder and adding it to my home theatre PC - I'll probably do it sooner rather than later if it gives me Tivo-like powers. Anyone have any experience doing this?

BTW.. as I mentioned I was going to have the receiver wired up into my PC room since it's included. If I get a TV Tuner card, or maybe an ATI AIW card, would I be able to use it to record TV on a hard drive, and then burn to a DVD??

Bill... have you messed with hacking/modding/networking your Tivo?

I know you can capture TV to a video file that can then be made into a video CD/DVD--we've got one running in a computer lab/classroom environment here on campus. I've probably even still got a document giving step by step instructions. I'll see if I can find it and e-mail it to you.

EDIT: Found the doc--what's your e-mail again?

Now that I think about it, I don't need a TV Tuner card since I'm using DirecTV - All I need is the Video In which all my video cards have. I'm not certain on the recording part, but I should be able to hook the DirecTV up to the PC no problem since the "tuning" portion is being handled by the DirecTV box.

I've used the "hidden codes" to unlock various things like enhanced menus and the 30 second forward skip. No hardware mods yet...

If you happen to have a handy list to share or a link to all the secret codes (I think TechTV listed them once as well) I'd appreciate it.

    Thanks.
