HALO Review
But the biggest problem with the graphics -- and the entire game, for that matter -- is that you'll need a pretty powerful PC to run Halo at a steady clip. My main machine is a P2.54 GHz P4 with a GeForce 4 and 1GB of RAM, and I've been running new releases like TRON 2.0, Jedi Academy and Call of Duty at 1024x768 without so much as a stutter - and that's with all the eye candy cranked up. But even at 800x600 with some of the details turned down, Halo still feels sluggish -- disappointing for a game that looked fantastic and ran fairly well on the Xbox two years ago.
This is a bit disappointing. So much for switching to this at the LAN party competetion.

If you were a zombie and I had to kill you, I'd feel sad.
There are a lot of different GeForce 4 cards out there. He doesn't specify what flavor he's using.
And "feels sluggish" doesn't provide much information. Does it jitter, or what? How many FPS is he getting?

I got it! And I'm a bit let down. My machine the way it's configured can't run the game very smooth at 1024x768. But at 800x600 it runs very very well. I guess my TI4600 GF4 just isn't as robust as it used to be. But that's okay cause I think the game looks great in 800x600 so I'm not gonna complain. Guess I better cough up that money for the Radeon 9800 soon
Didn't anyone else start to get bored by this game for the xbox once you walked into the 20th room that looks pretty much the same as all the others? I never did play it against other people, so that aspect I can't comment on, but once I beat the game, I never played it again.

I agree Pix. It did get monotonous. But I think it has great potential for multi-play.

Stitch - bring it to the Lan Party... we'll do up a bit of Halo in the "free play" time.
The middle of Halo gets slow when you have to back track through areas you already have seen... but that stuff with the flood that came near the end...wow. Definitely rewards you for sticking through the middle portion.

How 'bout letting us know what you guys think of it? I'm almost to the point where I won't get into a game unless everyone gives it a 10.
I even let Planetside pass me by. Everyone's sick of it and I haven't even played it once.
Hasta,

Halo looks very cool indeed. We only got to see single player however since the "sneak preview" copy we were using would not allow multi-player.

I "found" a copy also thanks to Stitch letting me know where to look, played multiplayer lastnight for a while and I have to admit it is pretty cool. I like the mouse/keyboard combo much better than the xbox controller just have to get used to it.

If you find yourself in a losing battle....your tactics suck!
Well, I had a chance to play the pre-release version of Halo last night. While I found the action to be pretty good, I was very disappointed with the quality of the graphics. Based on my first night's gameplay I'm changing my vote from a YES, to a MAYBE.

I agree with Bribo. I am also changing my decision from a Yes to a Maybe at this point. And it's because of the performance with my GF4TI4600 card. The DX9 effects just do not perfrom well with it, and I just don't have 250$ for a ATI 9800 just yet. I am going to wait till near the x-mas timeframe to do both a video card upgrade and maybe the purchase of Halo. Hopefully Half-Life 2 will be out then too!
Speaking of Half-Life 2, I saw that Playboy magazine rated it as THE BEST GAME OF 2003! And it doesn't even exist yet!
Considering the months-in-advance deadlines with publishing a magazine, I wonder what they had to do to pull this one off...
