Pops' BF Crashing Problem - Fixed?

As most of you know, Pops has been having a problem since the latest DC update. He's tried everything, including a full rebuild and more memory all with no joy. However today he thinks he finally got it fixed and I wanted to pass on what he did to stabalize the game in case anyone else out there is having a similar problem.

His PC was locking-up after playing DC for 10 to 60 minutes. No pattern, No event logs, nothing. He reinstalled Windows, BF (plus patches) and DC and it was still locking up. PB was working okay (or so it seemed) and adjusting a/v drivers didn't seeme to do much. The firewalls (he tried them all) seemed to work a bit, but he was still crashing/locking-up. Here's what he finally did to get it running:

Changed the AllowRefreshRate from 1 to 0 in Battlefield\Mods\bf1942\Settings\VideoDefault.com

Removed the Advance Sound drivers (came with system), found and installed generic VIA VT8233A AC97 drivers

Turned sound quality in game to lowest setting.

Also received new PB file; pbag.dll.

So far, everything is looks good. Hope to see him a bit more often in BF (of course, Mom is back from visiting family, so his week of computer bliss is coming to an end today)

    I second what Gunny said.

Also, I wonder if the new pbag.dll file would help the folks who are having problems with the ban issue.
