Why "militants" and not "terrorists"?

Just saw on CNN that Spielberg is making a movie about the Munich Olympics, where the Paleostinian terrorists murdered a bunch of innocent athletes.

My question is ... why do CNN and most other news organizations refer to Palestinian terrorists as "militants?" See quote below.

"Spielberg plans to start production in June and is eyeing actor Ben Kingsley for a role in the upcoming drama, which will chronicle the Summer Games marred by the kidnapping and slaying of Israeli athletes by Palestinian militants, a DreamWorks studio spokeswoman said Wednesday."

Anyone who intentionally targets and murders civilians for political gain is a TERRORIST, plain and simple. No need to gloss it over. Calling a Paleostinian splodeydope (suicide bomber) a militant is giving the creature entirely too much respect.

Ab,

That parallels the UN and its abundant hypocrisy. They decry that the US veto's a resolution condemning Israel for killing Palestinian / Hamas leaders who order the murder of innocent people yet they will do nothing to condemn the Palestinians who blow up Israeli children and innocent citizens. It's pure hypocrisy and just another example of how the UN is completely useless in its current form.

But I would expect nothing less from the Communist News Network.
