Folding for good and for awesome!

Any of u guys familar with "folding"? Number crunching with your spare cpu cycles to help in finding cures for many diseases in a nutshell. essentially u take part in a network of remote computers crunching protiens etc. the client is very good about only using spare cpu cycles and i even game with it running in the background no worries.

kinda neat, just thought id see if yall crunched.

if anyone is interested in doing something for a good cause with spare cycles by all means download the Folding at Home client either graphical or command line based, join a team and get crunchin! Id be glad to help anyone out!

I was involved with the SETI project for a long time... Made it to the top 100 of the Little White Dog team, which was quite an accomlishment.

I was involved with distributed.net's efforts to crack various encryption schemes in the late 90's. The competitions were sponsored by RSA and were at the height of Al Gore's Clipper chip controversy.

I was involved with SETI briefly, but their software kept screwing up my computer and I eventually lost interest.

It's amazing what distributed computing can accomplish. Although I remain a fan of SETI, I'm more inclined to use the power of my PC for more practical humanitarian applications like cancer research or atmospheric modeling.

I used to run a similar program for cancer research from United Devices, but unfortunately, my processor couldn't handle being run at 100% capacity 24/7, the cooling eventually gave out, and my processor overheated. I've been mistrustful of folding-type programs since then.

I don't leave me computer running when I'm not home or on. And when I am on I'm usually gaming and not willing to give up any cycles.
