Cheney needs to step aside?
A compeling argument.

To be honest, I have to agree. Chaney has not been able to raise above the image of impropriety. Fair or not, it deminishes the administrations ability to lead and has bothered me for some time.

To remove him is to give credence to the allegations. Therein lies the quandry.
Cheney's out: "It is due to health and family concerns."
IMO, it's the right thing to do. I think Bush/McCain would crush Kerry come November.

I couldn't disagree more. IF he were to step down, the Democrats would turn it into a huge issue and twist it beyond belief.Originally Posted by [AK]Bribo
Second, there is a loyalty issue involved.
Third, I don't want McCain anywhere near the Presidency.

It might cause a week's worth of drum pounding from the Dem's but I don't think it would be all that damaging. IMO, the plusses outweigh the negatives.
I've always liked John McCain. I actually preferred him as the candidate in 2000 before Bush was annointed as the preferred candidate by the GOP.
This election is highly polarized with the undecided middle being much smaller than years past. I think a McCain VP choice would help move that demographic to the Bush column.
Another plus - the press loves McCain and they would follow him around like a puppy.

I seriously believe McCain has a slight bi-polar condition. The man seems to be very unstable at times. He's had some good ideas, but man has he had some far left ones as well.Originally Posted by [AK]Bribo
I read this article last week over at Crush Kerry when all the Kerry-McCain rumors were running wild. Not exactly objective, but some good points.

I think the "McCain is nuts" thing is way out of line. It smacks of the smear tactics used in the 2000 Republican primary run when they tried to infer that McCain was unstable due to the torture he received as a POW.
Most of this anti-McCain crap-o-la has come from the far-right in an attempt to discredit him. It stunk then and it stinks now.
BTW, that article only mentions on McCain incident on the Daily Show. McCain was attempting to be funny (Hey, Why not? It IS Comedy Central) and perhaps was a little tasteless in his attempt. So what?

The article just an example of something I read recently, and as I stated, not objective.Originally Posted by [AK]Bribo

I did read his book "Faith of my Fathers" awhile back, but admit I did not finish "An American Odyssey". I just haven't gotten around to it as I found some of it almost rhetorical in nature.
There are times when the man does seem almost "presidential", and then there are times when he seems almost out of touch with reality. That is why I don't want him near the Presidency. I find him to be very unpredictable on some of his stances.
Don't take that as I don't respect him. I do. Unlike Kerry, John McCain is a true American Hero who made huge sacrifices for this country. I just don't feel comfortable with him as President.

There's a reason McCain was courted by the Kerry camp. He's the Republican party's Joe Leiberman.
I do admire John McCain, he can be very insightful at times. Other times you wonder where he is coming from.
However, I try to keep in mind that the guy was held in one of the worst prison camps anyone could have been in for 5 years, and I'm sorry, but there is no way one is ever toatlly right in the head again after that.
I read his autobiography, it was a great book. I realize he still blames himself for giving that interview in Hanoi, but I think he's a hero. I really do not know how well I would have held up in those conditions. Even with all the training I had, it is still a nightmare I would not wish on anyone.

This thread's a couple weeks old, but here's another interesting article on the Republican VP "dilemma".

McCain was great on SNL....
Especially singing Streisand, "IF she can do my job so well, maybe I'll do hers...."
Honestly, I had him picking Condi Rice a year ago, but not now b/c of her public image after the 9/11 commission crap. But I wouldn't count out Mr. Powell, that's who I think it would be.
