Thanks Ages. I have to do this every time any of the BF games are patched.

    Shades Cool

Yeah, I had to go in and reset my profile too! Also, Ab showed me how to use the Rad Linker correctly, now Nam is playing much smoother.

Okay, I'm back in Vietnam hell. Frame rates have dropped and it's back to the headache causing slideshow. I've got the latest ATI drivers. Any recommendations? Ab? What do you have your video set up to be?

Must be that Nvidia stuff your running.. (Smile) But I don;t think the BFV patch helped much. Time will tell.. Planetside is running great on the other hand.

    Nuts:

changing sound to custom/low and using Eax3 is giving me good results. Seems to respond to sound tweaking more than anything. Put all your graphics settings to performance in windows and medium in game to rule out vid card as bottleneck to be sure tho.

FX5900 @ 5950 with 61.77 drivers Dx9.0b and audigy1 did not have to do anything but tweak sound for perf after patch. Bribo do u use custom refresh rates in your display props?

I have a Radlink created with the following settings:

    DirectX -
    8X Performance Anisotropic
    2X Antialiasing
    Testures: Performance
    Mipmaps: Quality
    Vertical Sync: off

Open your main graphics control panel in Display properties and click off "custom settings" under DirectX.

    In game settings:

    Low sound quality
    Miles 2D Fast positional audio
    1024X768 100 hz resolution
    Medium, High, High
    Menu music off
    In-game music off
    Occlusion: None
    Lightmaps: Off
    Shadows : Off

Yes, this essentially castrates everything in the game that makes it look and sound exceptionally good. This game engine is perhaps the least-optimized, poorly coded piece of dung since Morrowind. I have a Radeon 9700 Pro clocked at 380/340, a 3.2 gHz P4 with 1024 mb of DDR 400 dual channel memory, and a Soundblaster Audigy 2. BF: Vietnam still runs like crap unless I turn down all the sound settings.

I updated my chipset driver, my bios, wiped all the video drivers from my system, and started from fresh. Then with some help from cruiser I tweaked some of my settings, and then set everything else to match what Ab has.... and he's right. The video just sucks. I have to get everything down to the lowest setting just to the get the frame rates above a stutter. ARG! Looks like I'll need a new system if I want to play Battlefield 2 if this keeps up.

I agree with AB's settings except i think those of u who run/own 9600's it being a 4pipe card should try:

    NO FSAA
only 4x anisotropic filtering in performance mode
    performance textures
    and blend or performance mipmaps.

The 9600pro or 9600 just doesnt have the fillrate for FSAA or more than 4x aniso in BFV.

I tend to think FSAA isnt even worth messing with in BFV for the simple fact there just arent many straight edge's unlike DC.

Also heres a VideoDefault.con file u can try for more performance: open yours, save it and replace it with this one:

    renderer.FullScreen 1
    renderer.fieldOfView 1
    renderer.globalLodRadius 1
    renderer.globalLodRadiusScaleFactor 6
    console.showStats 0
    renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1
    renderer.useTrilinearFiltering 0
    renderer.mipmapbias -3
    renderer.lockfps 250

Try this and if you get undesired texture aliasing change mipmapbias to 0.

    UPDATE!

it seems this line disappears from your DEFAULT.con file when u install patch:

    Game.SoundBufferSize 400

    may help testing now!

Should I be touching any of the .con files under the profile directory?

    renderer.setFullScreen 1
    renderer.fieldOfView 1
    renderer.globalLodRadius 1
    renderer.globalLodRadiusScaleFactor 5
    console.showStats 0
    renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 1
    renderer.useTrilinearFiltering 1
    renderer.lockfps 150

I have an ATI 9600 Pro. This is what my VideoDefault file looks like. Cruiser told me about unlocking BF1942 default framerate cap by putting in the last line "renderer.lockfps 150". As soon as I did that my framrate incresed and ran steadily between 100 - 143. I also bumped up most of my settings, the game looked great and I didn't take a performance hit. DC runs great! Nam just sucks no matter what I do.
