    SP2 - Warning

I installed SP2 last night on my Windows XP Pro PC and boy did it crap out. During the final steps of the install it started giving me errors. Then it asked for a reboot. Upon doing so, the shell wouldn't load. I tried manually launching explorer with no luck. I did a safe start and a system restore to the previous day. Still, no explorer. I booted off the windows xp cd and did a repair. It failed too. I ended up reinstalling windows over my current installation, grabbing all my data files (.pst, my docs, etc...) and then formatting and starting over. I though perhaps my download of sp2 was bad, but after a clean install of windows I tried sp2 again and it went it smoothly.

I strongly recommend that you back up your critical files before running sp2 just in case you run into the same scenario as me.

Oh, and after all that I see that my website got hacked. Great.

I'm with Bribo.. it's not touching my PC until it's been widely tested and patched.

SP2 now on my main game Machine, So far, so good, but the issue I have seen on all PC's I have put sp2 on, is that it doesn;t reboot correctly the first time. I have to turnoff system and reboot to complete installation...

Well I took the plunge tonight and loaded SP2 on my primary system and my WinXP FTP server.

So far no real problems to speak of. Rebooted without a problem, did a defrag, and started up a bunch of applications. Set permissions, etc.

The only "problem" I've encountered so far is my Norton Anti-Virus 2002 doesn't get monitored. I've downloaded everything off from live update but it doesn't work. 2004 works fine on my primary system though.

Had the same issue with AV2003, but everything is still running great.

Yeah, let me reiterate that AV2002 IS working just fine, but it's not being monitored is all. Not a big deal.

I probably have a spare license for 2004 sitting around here somewhere so I should probably install that anyways.
