    Build a budget power PC!

I was helping a member of AK spec out a PC today and I thought I would post it here to see what others thought. The idea is to build a 'solid' pc, one that can handle todays games at acceptable levels, without breaking the bank. I know, every review site and their brother does this, but I did it by using newegg.com exclusively (Checked azatek for monitor, but most were off lease).

Anyways, here is what I came up with.

    Enermax Black ATX 10-Bay Mid-Tower Case w/400W PS (Model CS-EN5171LBFS-B) $59.00
    Power Supply Included w/case $0.00
Standard Keyboard $25.00 There are so many, you can choose your own.
Logitech MX700 cordless optical mouse $46.00
MSI "K7N2 Delta-L" nForce2 Ultra 400 $61.00 If you want SATA, Firewire, etc.. You can get MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR for about $25 more
    AMD Athlon 64 3000+ $172.00
    2X512mb Corsair Value Select PC3200 DDR $160.00
    Hard Drive 160GB Maxtor 7200rpm 8mb cache $99.00
    Samsung 16X DVD-Rom Drive (Model SD-616EEP, OEM)
    Plextor 52X32X52 (Model PX-Premium-BPS) CD-RW Drive $78.00
Video Card eVGA nVIDIA GeForce 6800GT 256mb $424.00
    Sound Card On motherboard $0.00
    Monitor NEC/MITSUBISHI AS900 19" CRT Monitor $165.00

    Hardware Cost: $1,317.00
    OS (XP): 159.00
    Total: $1,476.00

There you have it. An XP 3000+ with 1gig of RAM, NVIDIA 6800GT, 160GB HD, CD-RW & DVD drives, and a nice 19in monitor for less than $1,500.00. Not too shabby.

Wow--that's not bad at all, especially considering that I wouldn't need a new monitor, my XP license is paid for by the office, and I could move an Audigy card from one of my current systems. I'd love to have a system like that--maybe in a couple of months I'll get one together! Nice work Hy!

Beast - Actually, the soundcard built onto the nForce chipsets are pretty darn solid.

Slaughter - No overclocking going on, but the case does have 4 fans.
