    Networking 2 computers to share files and printer

    Hey guys, I’m building a computer at work. Got that completed but now I need to hook both computers up so I can share files and use the printer in other room. Can someone walk me through how to do this?

    Description;

    Office computer = windows Xp and has the printers hooked up directly to it and the files I need to share.
    Internet comes from hub

    Second Computer = windows 2000 connected to same hub. Internet access from hub.

    I know nothing about networking so Im hoping someone can walk me through this fairly eaily..

    FC,

    This is very simple since you are using Windows only machine. On the XP box, go to the Hard Drive/Folder that you want to share on the network. Right click on it and select properties. Select the 'sharing' tab. Then select the options you want such as "share this folder on the network" and allow (or disallow) the other machines to modify or change those files.

    Then you do the same exact thing with the printer. Right click on it, and select to share it.

    Now.. this all presumes that you have a "Workgroup" set up on your network? Each machine should belong to the same "Workgroup" name you set up, such as FCNetwork or whatever.

    Each machine should belong to the workgroup so that they can 'see' eachother.

    In XP, this is easy. Just select Start, My network places, then on the left select "set up a home or small office network". On Win2K.. it's been awhile, but it should be somewhat similar. Then, when you select "view workgroup computers", both PCs should show up.

    Hylander, Thanks again bro. That was exactly what I needed... Worked perfect. I now have both computers set to share files and use the printers...

    Thanks again...
