Digital Cable Box

As I wanted to get HD channels, I had to go to Comcast and get one of their HD set-top boxes. Now, I only pay for basic cable which includes the HD broadcast channels and the music choice. However, my great cable company gave me a box that is unlocked and I get all the premium cable channels (HBO, Skinamax, Showtime, TMC, etc). I figure that there must be some sort of routine polling of cable boxes to level-set everyone to their account. I'm curious if anyone knows how often or when this would occur. Do you think I'll be missed if I unplug my cable box every night?
