    Question MP3 Player Recommendations

Well guys, it's been a month so it's time for another exciting business trip. This time I'm flying to Coatzacoalcos, Mexico. It's supposed to be a real crap hole and I'm SOOO looking forward to my flights from San Fran - Houston - Mexico City - Minatitlan then a truck ride to Coatzacoalcos. (Repeat 18hrs later) ARG. It's a bunch of short flights so you know there'll be no movies hence I'm going to go buy an MP3 player after work.

I'm looking for a unit over 10gb in size to store all my music. Durability, user-replaceable battery, ease of use, easy to read screen and good ear buds are my specs so far.

Does anyone have any recommendations/experience with portable MP3 players? Also, I'll need to be able to buy it in a local store, so if you could recommend a popular unit that would be great.

    Oh ya... and cheap!

I'm not sure. I heard that the ipods can't have their battery changed out by the consumer and that worries me a bit. Perhaps if the new ones had fixed this problem.....

Nothing touches an iPod. I have a 30 GB (10,000 songs) one, myself, and it's one of my favorite toys of all time.

iPod is the player to get. The price is worth it.

Nuts I strongly encourage you to get a set of noise canceling headphones. If you don't already have one of these, it's a must buy for guys who travel.

Pretty amazing, they have a microphone and processor that analyzes ambient noise. They then emit a negative soundwave which cancels it out. On an airplane it's like night and day. I have a set form Philips that I grabbed at Target (cheaper than Best Buy) that I just love - these things really work.

Otherwise you're wasting your time IMHO. I've tried conventional earphones on aircraft before and you have to blast it at full volume - and it's still tough to hear everything right.

Also, don't forget that you can play DVD movies on your lap-top. If you don't have a DVD drive, just convert the DVD's to SVCD's.

Well, I got home last night from the crap hole that is Coatzacoalcos, Mexico. On Wednesday night I went by Best Buy and while they did have iPod, they were just so much more expensive than their competition and as I'll only use it on airplanes, I went with a cheaper model, Creative Nomad, 30GB for $229.00 It worked great although I didn't charge the battery enough right out of the box so when I dumped my 5gb of music to it before my flight, only about 200 songs actually got transferred... ARG.

I may end up returning it later this week. We'll see.
