    Question Router recommendation

I'm a cheap bastard. So when it came time to hook the wife's PC to the internet, I just stole an old NIC from work, put it into my PC and then shared my internet connection. Well, now she'll have a laptop from work as well as her personal PC so that means I've finally got to spend some money to buy a router (I've got 20 hubs but no routers at work). We don't need wireless as she'll use a docking station and isn't interested in going wireless.

So, I've found a linksys routerer with firewall I'm curious if any of you folks have any experience with this one or have a recommendation for a very basic, 4-port router with firewall.

I've heard talk that some routers don't allow you to save configuration settings... definetly want to stay clear of that.

    Thanks

Ive heard the Linksys are ok. I use a Netgear RP614 and it works great! It is also very configurable with some very nice built in features.

great router at a great price!

The netgear is much better than the Linksys FYI.

We use netgear switches on all our oiltankers, I just don't have any experience with their routers. The install went smooth; same with the firmware upgrade. So far things are looking great. Any recommendation on a need to keep Zone Alarm? Is it just overkill or a good practice?

I still run it on all my PCs. Maybe I'm paranoid but I figure if I get some kind of wierd Trojan on my PC that wants to send out me Credit Card info to sdome Russian haxx0r site Zonealarm might just stop it.

I'm currently running a Netgear Switch and a Netgear Router.. Had the switch for about 3 years now, not a single problem.. mainly the reason I went with them for the router (plus the $50 rebate).
