I am in favor of massaging the data in whatever manner it takes to make them feel better about themselves. So long as the Republicans continue to govern.

The libs should be embarrassed for being taken in by such a flimsy con. Anybody familiar with IQ scores can see through that silly chart. IQ scores work on a standard deviation of about 15 points, meaning that about 2/3rds of the population is 85-115. If you're at all familiar with statistics, it's utterly absurd to claim that an entire state is a full standard deviation above or below the average.

I normaly stay away from this forum but occationaly look in, especialy when Leo posts because he seems suprisingly lucid for a lawyer (had to get a lawyer jab in).

Anyway as one who is often labled as a "Liberal" normaly from those that label themselves "Conservatives" (while my "liberal" friends think of me as more of a "conservative") I am suprised at how many people have been hoaxed by that chart. Leo was dead on about the states being a full standard deviation or more away from eachother as suspicious.

I don't see how they can say that this election was even remotely as close as 2000.. /shrug

The election was close in most all races. The fact that republican canidates won in most areas is a different matter. Here in Washington we still don't know who our govenor is yet, but it will prbably be Rossi by just over 1k votes. That is a close race.

The presidential race was also relatively close in most all state races but Bush won the most, and the popular vote (by a relatively large percentage compared to past races) however it was still close. When talking political numbers there are many factors to take into account. When looking at the map of "red" vs "blue" states and counties it does appear that Bush swept all... yet in most (not all, but most) of the cases it was a close race... Bush won but not by a landslide and in my mind this is a healthy democracy much better than one side winning all by huge margins.

But as close as the 2000 elections? No, not even. A vigorous race to be sure but the winner was pretty clear this time even if the numbers at the polls were close.
