Eep! Why the heck is my sound now bad?

    Uh oh, computer troubles.

The sound on my PC has all of a sudden gone garbled on me whenever the computer has to think about anything. I'm not sure why this is, but I think my PC's running slower now too.

    Here's the recent history:

Installed Quicktime a couple days ago. Discovered I don't like it and Uninstalled it. Programs not happy and are now looking for it to run (such as Firefox). So I did a Restore Point rollback. Lost my install of Far Cry (even though it's right there darnit) so I reinstalled that. Now that game runs like crap. Slow, choppy, and the sound is bad. Actually, the sound is bad for everything on my PC now. This is frustrating.

    Any ideas?

Interesting. I was getting to the point were I was ready to write it off and reformat. But first, as an experiment I did another system, this time to about 20 days ago. Now everything is working great. No idea what's going on, but I'm running with.

Chalk one up for WinXP. This is the first time I've encountered something in this OS that Win2K wouldn't be able to do for me.

I've noticed some strange things about System Restore though. For example, I uninstalled Doom3, but now the computer's just convinced it's still there. Far Cry is no longer accessible and has to be completely reinstalled, even though the files are all right there. But most interesting is what it does with files. Recent downloads that were left in the default save directory appear to have disappeared. This will now be the third time I've had to download the Far Cry patch

I have a problem with my sound card that has appeared before and that has happened again and it looks like it came from no where. I recently reformatted my HD and my volume when adjusted for the speakers it fluxuates and gets real loud and then silent it will do it until I turn it up pretty loud and use the audio program I am listening to, to adjust the volume.

I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum. I am thinking that this happened when I down loaded the latest updates. But I am am not sure. If anyone has had this problem or is familar with it I would love the help.

The sound is all about the wood and the pickups. Bartolini all the time...
