    Pampas Grass - ARG!

I've got three of these huge, ugly ass bushes (weeds) in my backyard that I need to get rid of. I know it's going to be tough (I can't back a truck into the backyard to jerk them out of the ground). I plan on cutting the leaves back as far as I can get then just axe the heck out of the stump. Then maybe use some herbacide or Roundup to kill it. Anyone have any experience removing these devils?

Vinegar is a safe and easy way to kill most vegetation. Works just like Round-up without the harmful chemicals. I put it in a squirt bottle and use it on weeds around the sidewalk.

Those weeds, however, look to be industrial strength. You might have to hack them down to the ground and dig them out with an axe and shovel.

I prefer the quarter stick of dynamite approach to removing stubs...

I'll have to assume that in my neighborhood, dynamite would probably be banned. As is fire. The vinegar and alcohol solution seem unique.

That plus a weedwhacker and a sign saying "All you can eat Salad $4.99" and you can recover your expenses.

My neighbor planted those things as "decorative additions" to his yard.

    Takes all types I guess.

And the billboards are all leering
And the flags are all dead at the top of their poles.

ColorUnhappy Nut's Guide to Pampas Grass Removal

Step 1. Don't try this at home.
    Step 2. Pay a professional.

These giant weeds are about 30 years old. They reside under a pine tree. So for the past 3 decades pine needles and dead pampas grass leaves have been making compost within the leaves of the plant. This has built up layer of mulch within the plant allowing for new plants to grow 3 - 4ft off the ground. I used 10in hedge trimmers, a pulaski, and a hack saw. After 3 hours, I had removed about 5 cubic yards of dead plant material and had barely made a dent. The wife took over for a few minutes before she found a opossum living int he undergrowth. That's when all worked stopped and I called a tree/stump removal service. Beats me how much it's going to cost, but I don't mess with opossums.

If you ever try to remove these things I suggest burning... As the ones in my yard are against the house, the fence, and a pine tree... this is not an option for me. ARG!
