    Generosity Index

While sufring the net I took a wrong turn and found the 2002 generosity index. What was interesting is that the people living in the poorest states were most often the most generous. 2002 Generosity Index

I decided to compare the generosity index (having vs giving) to that of the 2004 Presidential votes (famous red vs blue map). What did I find?

It seems that the blue states are all found in the bottom of half of the generosity scale... and most in the both 25 percentile. Hmmmm. I'll draw my own conclusions concerning tax and spend liberals that support large, cradle-to-grave governement programs and how they feel about giving their own money. Feel free to draw your own.

By the way... I took the political map and added the generosity ranking to each state and posted it below:

Nuts, I suspect you have the Alaska and Hawaii colors reversed.

I'm ashamed of my state. It gives the other red states a bad name.

I think you should look at it another way. The fine citizens of Nevada are by far the most generous. Look at the millions and millions of dollars that freely give away every year! If only they gave that money to charities rather than casinos, it would count for something. Perhaps if the IRS changed it's, "charitable contributions' to include gambling we would see Nevada move up to number 1!

And even with all that gambling, Nevada's still more generous than fellow red state Colorado!

That's an interesting formula they used to compute the index. I'd rather have seen dollars given divided into per capita income to get a percent rather than subtracting earnings rank from giving rank, though.
