    Paintball Tourney - GPL Event #2

    Team GXP took second place in this one...unfortunately I wasn't playing with them this time.

    We had a lot of extra players, so they formed a Division 1 5 man team and I played with those guys. We'd never played together before and the competition was a bit tougher. We struggled to an 0-3-1 start, but then we rebounded with 4 straight wins. Thanks to the rough start we didn't make the playoffs but it was clear that once we got used to each other as a team we could compete very well in that division. Once again I miss out on the big prize guns, but that's the life of a "sub".

    The GPL events are held at Del Hobbies in southern NJ. I've got about 50 more pics to put up, but I'm doing a gallery site for the store so they'll be going up there. I'll let you know.

    Looks like fun! Was there a "pro" photographer taking pictures at the event? I'm most curious how that close-up of you shooting was taken--that's a great pic!

    The father of one of the guys (Will) is a pro and he's the one who took the pictures. He's got credentials through one of the jobs he did in the past and that was enough to get him on the field (inside the nets). He uses a big-ass pro level digital camera with a long lense on a mono-pod...the sort you see along the sidelines at NFL games. He said there was a bit of a learning curve shooting pictures with a mask on... it's tough to get a look through the viewfinder to frame properly.

    He wore a poncho (yes, Sears) and had the camera completely encased in some sort of black vinyl cover (yes, bring out the gimp, har har.) Only the very end of the lense was exposed. When it came time to shoot he'd duck under the cover and film away. Anyway most of the paint is directed at the players, not at a cameraman on the sideline. Just don't get behind a player and you're ok.
