I've got @home and I have it working with Mandrake 7.2... No experience with Slackware though.

Hmm... Collision on your hub? What does that mean, exactly? "Collisions" are a perfectly normal side effect of living in a shared Ethernet (i.e. non-switched) environment, caused by two or more devices trying to transmit information at the same time. These usually aren't a problem in small/low traffic environments since the devices are designed to cease transmission when a collision is sensed (because you are using the Carrier Sense Multiple Access / Collision Detect (CSMA/CD) contention handling spec as outlined in the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standard, as opposed to the much slower CSMA/CA (Collision Avoidance) spec used by things like Apple's Ethertalk, for example) and set a random back off timer when they will begin to attempt to transmit again. If you are having a excessive collisions, that would seem indicate a bad network card or a bad driver (latter is much more likely, unless the OS's are being installed on two different computers). I would guess that the problem you are having has nothing to do with @Home/Comcast. Let me know if I can be of any help in this.

FWIW, I've got slackware working with RoadRunner cable connection and DHCP. My config is Cable Modem > Linux Box > HUB > Windows PCs. Let me know if you want to go over your Slackware configs.

If you were a zombie and I had to kill you, I'd feel sad.
i guess i just forgot how i did get it working once,
i think what happened, on a know working machine i un hooked it from the net plugged in my linux box to it, thats when i noticed the collision, net speed was like 300bps or not at all, then yesterday, on a machine i built for slack, it failed to bring up my connection, detected my card just fine though, tried other ports on the hub, swapped out cables.
well ill play around with it more today, got some nics to swap out.
thanks,
