Running both Ventrilo clients (old and new)

Any tips on installing and running both the older, AK supported Ventrilo client and the latest Ventrilo client on the same machine?

Looks like I got this running. Here is what I did:

1. Created a backup copy of the C:\Program Files\Ventrilo folder (called it Ventrilo_2.1.4)
2. Un-installed Ventrilo 2.1.4
3. Downloaded and installed the Ventrilo 2.3 client.
4. Created a desktop short cut for the Ventrilo 2.1.4 client.
5. Created a desktop short cut for the Ventrilo 2.3 client.
6. Loaded Ventrilo 2.1.4 and connected to the AK server as normal (seems to work OK).
7. Loaded the Ventrilo 2.3 client. Created a new user, new server and new bindings. Went through the various settings to make sure they were set correctly (PUSH-TO-TALK, etc.)
8. Connected the V 2.3 client to a server (seems to work OK).

The only thing I noticed is that it seems to lose the server password info from client to client load. So you'll have to have those handy and go in an manually add the password to the server info if you hop back and forth.

I will test the clients out again later tonight when more people are on.

Is this still working for you? The reason I ask is I uninstalled 2.1.4 and installed the 2.3 because I needed it for another server Im using. But I didn't realize it wasn't backwards compatible with older ventrilo servers, so now I can't connect to the AK server. The info is there, but I can't connect. The problem is, I already deleted the 2.1.4 install so I'd just have to uninstall 2.3 and then reinstall 2.1.4, then save it, then uninstall and reinstall 2.3. Ugh. =(

Yes, still works. The trick is to create a backup copy of the 2.1.4 directory BEFORE un-installing 2.1.4. You then simply create a desktop shortcut icon that points to the 2.1.4 client in the backup directory.

The other alternative is to do a full uninstall/re-install of the desired version each time you need to connect with that version. Since IMO this is a PITA I prefer the above approach.

I use the new client and am currently renting a server for 5 bucks a month where friends and I play Battlefield. It is really cheap now to rent the new ventrillo servers. Might be worth upgrading.

Don't know if its the cheapest but is extremely easy to set up.
