What's BF2?
Hylander, Nuts, and myself were talking about this the other night, and we pretty much agreed that we were not interesting in purchasing that module.
If enough people bought it I would pick it up, but I haven't heard anything overly positive about it at this point to induce me to purchase it.

I haven't even bought the SF expansion yet--I'm a WoW slacker. The price looks right, though.
EF doesn't have a big following, and most of it due to the roll-out of SF. EA has stated that it's not going to be rolling out updates to booster packs, hence EF was doomed from the get go. I only like SF because of the lack of jets which dominate Vanilla. Add to it the zip and hook lines, SF rocks.
So until EF becomes free, I'll probably stay away from it.
I'm the same way as Nuts. EF had nothing to really offer where Special forces IMHO is well worth it. I play Special forces more than regular due to the added features of Grappling hook and zip line. Makes every map allot more intriguing being able to go anywhere on the buildings, or get over any wall in your way. Choppers are still strong in Sf but like nuts said, jets no longer rule the game.
SF has more teamwork also due to the hook and zip. Only one class can carry each. so you need someone with a hook, someone with a zip line and a medic and you can rock. All around better than regular BF2.
Add to that, I think that only more die-hard players purchased SF, thus resulting in overall better players. I see more squad participation and fewer smacktards in SF.
The only thing I hate about SF is the carrier map... it's a slide show for me. I drop to teens and low 20fps on that map. It really sucks on GI Joe server because they have it set at 7 rounds per map rotation!

Best servers for me are 64 player maps with a maximum of 50 players. This prevents massive player congregations in specific areas which for me, results in frame-rate drop off.
