    Ordered me some Special Forces

EA dropped the price to $20 from their online store (well, $25 including shipping), so I went ahead and ordered it--should be here within a week, depending on its shipping origin. Hopefully when I uninstall and reinstall, that'll fix the problem I've been having with the agonizing 5+ minute delay for "verifying client data" (unfortunately, manually updating PunkBuster made no noticable difference).

I've always had the 5+ minute delay for verifying client data... so I doubt that the uninstall-reinstall will solve your problem. I've cleared the cache and all the suggest 'solutions' in the past, but none of them work. It's fine once you do it for a map, but it's when the map switches that it takes forever to verify client. I tried the PunkBuster update route as well, no go.

Was 1.3 patch "madatory" to play Special Forces as well? I'm really regretting patching with it as it pretty much ruined my installation. I should have just stuck with playing SF as is, as it was working perfectly fine and I really could have left the vanilla BF2 alone as I never really play it anyways.

There are tons of recommendations on the installation order for SF. This is the most popular: Install BF2, Install SF, Install Full 1.3,Reboot. If you already have 1.3 installed, you'll have to do it again. So maybe a full uninstall would be best.

Defrag your hard drive and keep the PB up to date. Verify is a process in which all BF files are analyzed, so prepare for a few minutes to be wasted. I usually pick servers with no map rotation, hence no re-verify. I find a map I want to play and play 5 or 6 rounds then go find another server.

I just bought a second copy of BF2 this week and for $10 more you get BF2+Special Forces - the Deluxe addition. Hopefully, the install will be smooth (crosses fingers).

Sacrificing a live chicken may also help with the patch process. Be sure not to look at your computer the wrong way while patching is in progress.

I'm going to hold off reinstall till my SF comes next week. Meantime, I discovered today that I didn't do the PB update correctly last night, so that probably didn't help any--I'll fix my client tonight; I fixed the AK BF2 server today. Maybe I'll defrag my HD over the weekend.

I know verifying always took a long time, but I don't remember it taking quite as long as it did before. Did they expand the verification from "some files" to "all files" in some 1.2.x or 1.3 patch?
