In short - Israel may be responding overwhelmingly but there are many good reasons why they are doing so, in my opinion. They have made many concessions to placate their critics and the larger Muslim world but what has that got them?

Yes, why won't the Israelis lie down and die peacefully, instead of fighting back? It's very inconsiderate of them. And it's ridiculous that the USA would back the region's sole democracy, rather than supporting the anti-democratic kleptocracies that train and fund terrorists. Israel has every right to do what they are doing. They gave a deadline for their soldiers to be released back to them peacefully, that deadline was not met by these terrorists.

Israel is only doing what we wish we could. It's about time someone grabbed the applesack and starts showing the world what lying in bed with terrorism does to you. Unfortunately, there actually are innocent people in Lebanon that will suffer, but it has a term, Collateral Damage.

Seriously, if the US had that level of tension in the neighborhood, you bet you'd see a similar response. If it means higher gas, so be it.

The Israelis don't need our help, they could conquer the whole area in about 6 days or so.

Yeah, we cannot ask Israel to just lay back and accept the occasional terrorist rocket attack or kidnapping for the good of the region. They'd have to rename themselves France.

All I have to say to them is godspeed and good hunting. They have agreed to a ceasefire if the soldiers are returned and the Lebanese army drives Hezbollah out and secures the border. Sounds pretty reasonable to me.
