I suggest PoE tonight. Some great maps out there. I've also seen higher quality players. The other day while pubbing it, I played the map 'Fallen' (a forrest map with no vehicles and all, flags are close) and saw more squad work in one round then in the past year of playing BF2. With the kiddies back in school and PoE resulting in unranked servers, players that really play to win and not just pump their e-penis stats are flocking to PoE.

I HAVE NOT NOR DO I RECOMMEND PATCH 1.4. It may or may not break PoE.

New 1.4 POE patch is out for Windows and Linux.

The Point of Existence Website now offers a new Linux and Windows server patch for the Point of Existence modification for Battlefield 2. Word is: "With the release of the 1.4 patch for Battlefield 2 we have discovered a compability [sic] issue with the current PoE2 version. Anyone trying to join a server running 1.4 will get a modified content error and get kicked. However, we have already fixed this and a download link for servers running PoE2 is listed below. Please unpack the files to your mods/poe2 folder on your server to apply fix."

I'm working on it--probably won't have the patches up on the FTP server or the PoE server patched until tomorrow, given that I'm heading home in 40 minutes or less.

I did not install POE, but I did patch Joe and my machines to 1.4. Will download the POE mod today.

Server is up to 1.4, PoE updated. Should be good to go for the weekend. I'm burning a copy of PoE to DVD to get installed; hopefully I'll be able to hop on and give it a try in the next few days (might be tough with the NFL season starting, though.)

I finally got on at about 11pm (Pacific) and had a couple of great rounds on a pub server. 'Fallen' is a great map and I'm still shocked at how there are so many people that squad up and work together. 5 full squads, each squad sticking together and capping flags as a team. Sweet. 'Fallen' is nice as it's all about guns and nades. No armor, and with all the trees, snipers are limited. So it's all about assualt, support and spec ops (though with the limited ammo, they too are rare).
