As an early B-day present to myself I took the plunge and made my Home Theater purchase. Most everything should be here by next week and I learnd a whole bunch of things about componants and TV's. www.hometheaterspot.com is a great forum for HT info. Well heres what I got...

Toshiba 65" 16:9 HDTV Projection 65h81
Panasonic DVD-RP91k Progressive Scan DVD
Onkyo TXDS-696 Receiver
Toshiba HD/Direct TV Set Top Box (with antenna for local HD signal)

I passed on the speakers for now. I will get them at a later date (or when the wife allows me to get them LOL)

I am gonna try and take a picture of it when I get it all set up. WOOHOO. I cant sleep at night....I am giddy as a school girl.

AWESOME setup, Goober. I went the PC route for my home theater setup:

32" TV w/ line in to PC with 5-point surround speakers set up around the living room
DVD-ROM with MPEG decoder card that plays DVD video to the TV and speakers

The computer also doubles as the CD player and connects to my 2nd PC, which has a gig of MP3 files separate from my CD collection

Yours still makes me jealous though...I want HDTV dammit! If I get that promotion....

I've got a Home Theater setup as well... 55 inch big screen,
satellite, DVD, 5.1/THX, All the speakers and subwoofer are in place. Rawks.

I'm not sure what you're asking. That site allows people to input dvds that they own. I own 213 dvds, and the link leads you my list. If you click on the dvds they should link you to the IMDB entry for that movie.

The prices are the prices I paid.

Which of my eclectic collection seem "odd" to you?

Several were freebies bundled with various DVD players I've purchased over the years. That's how I end up with krep like 6 Days 7 Nights and Stepmom. Others I buy to have available when guests (like my parents) come over. My Mom is unlikely to be tempted by movies like "Blade Runner" or "The Thing".

Also, at any time, there's about 20-30 dvds in there that I haven't seen yet (ie, The Patriot, The Replacements, Notting Hill (choke, gag, wheeze.....))

Yeah I can understand the purchace of dvds for guests, people who just might not have the same taste as you or me, but some of those movies on that list I would never own. Bring it On, Coyote Ugly, The Craft, Disturbing Behavior and Lost in Space (I am sure there are otehrs ). One view of each of those movies was enough for me. To be honest though, you do have a great collection, and enough great stuff to over power some of the above I mentioned.

By the way, watch Notting Hill, it was actually quite good, in a sappy, cute, romantic, british accent kind of way.

Fair enough Here's a run down, simply because I like talking about movies...

Bring it on: Liked it quite a bit. I found it funny, and frankly
I can't get enough cheerleader movies.

Coyote Ugly: Bought to have it "on hand" in case anyone wanted to see it. Harmless fluff. I won't watch it again until someone else asks for it.

The Craft: Love the movie...I recognize its many faults. But I can't help myself. I own 2 copies and have the movie poster up on the wall of my "den".

Disturbing Behavior: Bought it cause it had Katie Holmes in it, but yeah, it sucks. Another suckee Katie Holmes flick is "Teaching Mrs Tingle". Avoid it like the plague.

Lost in Space: DVD Player purchase freebie. It blows. The first 5 minutes are great for showing off your sound system and big screen, but that's *it*.

Also, my wife and I have noticed that no matter how much a movie sucks, if you're going to watch it, it makes more sense to buy the DVD than go to the theater. You get to watch the film as much as you want, the sound system is better, the seats are more comfortable, you don't have to listen to teenagers talking throughout, you get the DVD extras, and often times the price is less than theater tix plus food.
Besides, if you REALLY hate it, you can just sell it on Ebay and recroup most if not all of your investment.

Question - Have you ever seen the movie "Blade"?

Sure the Wesley Snipes vampire movie that has a sequal currently in production. It was great, I have seen it a bunch of times. By the way, I am somewhat of a movie freak, so it would be hard to find a "good" movie that I haven't seen.
